Disability Living Allowance Helpline

In the U.K., the Disability Living Allowance for adults is going through a change. The new version is going to be called something different. This is going to be called the Personal Independence Payment. It will apply to disabled people.

It’s still possible to apply to the original DLA program, but only if you’re under the age of 16. Those who are over 16, need to apply to the PIP option instead. You can only do this if you aren’t at the age where you can get a state pension yet, however. You also need to not be getting DLA already.

The age for state pension is variable and depends on a number of different factors. It’s worth checking in the appropriate place online. The government site for the UK has a tool that will let you figure this out. In general, it depends on your date of birth and whether you are male or female.

It’s important to stay on top of all of this due to the fact that those who are getting DLA currently may soon get a letter in the mail detailing the end of their DLA benefits. The sooner you apply for PIP and switch over, the better off you’re going to be in the long run.

Obviously, this is a different matter if you’re under the age of 16, or if you’re caring for someone who is under the age of 16 and disabled. In this case, you can apply for DLA for them on their behalf. The rate comes out to 22.65 pounds to 145.35 pounds per week. The rate will vary based on the specific situation. A determination will have to be made about how much help the child requires.

For those who need additional help, it definitely is worth trying out the Disability Living Allowance helpline. This can help you to make sure that you fully understand the situation that you’re in, and how the DLA and PIP rules will end up applying to you specifically. Trying to just go it alone without any other help if you are struggling to understand it due to some part of the law being unclear is not going to be an optimal response on your part.

There’s certainly no reason to try to struggle through your life without getting help from the government if you qualify for it. After all, this is exactly what the government program is for. This often just creates more problems. The government wants to aid you in helping disabled children or in aiding yourself because those who struggle could end up with bad health or other negative outcomes which will simply put more strain on the government’s resources down the line anyway, such as in the health service.

So, if anything, you will end up saving the government money by getting the help you need in order to prevent additional expenses that will happen anyway.
